Super Bowl Commercials: Our 5 Favorite Foodie Ads from Sunday

Super Bowl Commercials: Our 5 Favorite Foodie Ads from Sunday

SANTA CLARA, CA
Monday, February 8th, 2016

Yes, we all know Peyton Manning and Beyonce were winners at last night's Super Bowl, but if you ask me, the real winners this year were those of us who found ourselves laughing, maybe even crying in front of our television sets to some of the more awe-inspiring commercials in recent memory. And being your source for the latest food industry news, we at DeliMarket News thought we’d round up our five favorite food industry picks from this year’s Super Bowl Sunday:

1) Kraft/Heinz

The cutest weiners you’ve ever seen met a whole new family of condiments in this now instant classic of a commercial. As we've previously reported, Kraft/Heinz ditched its former PR firm, Cramer-Krasselt Chicago, in favor of Brazillian agency, "David," for this spot, but did the switch pay off? I think you’ll not soon forget the sight of hundreds of dachshunds in hot dog costumes happily bounding through a field in search of the perfect ketchup.

2) Taco Bell

This is officially one of my major food conquest plans of the week. The quasi-Mexican food giant finally revealed its long-awaited culinary masterpiece, the Quesalupa, with this 30-second ad spot. Comparing its new item, essentially a quesadilla wrapped around a fried tortilla taco, to such cultural anamolies as the “man bun,” Tinder, and the hoverboard, Taco Bell touched on all the marks to catch the attention of its millennial demographic.

3) Mtn. Dew

What was some people’s most memorable moment of the night, and some people’s worst nightmare materialized, Mtn. Dew used its eerie hybrid of a puppy, a monkey, and a baby to endorse its juice and energy drink hybrid, Mtn. Dew Kickstart. While this ad has already gone viral, it was more in the same kind of way that something like ebola goes viral.

4) Doritos

Refresh your palate from the unease of the Puppy Monkey Baby with this new, feel-good Doritos ad. A finalist in its fan submitted commercial contest, this ad combines cute dogs, costumes, and a classic comedy gag a la the Little Rascals to win over the hearts of snacking fans everywhere.

5) Avocados From Mexico

Harkening back to such classic cultural icon’s as 2015’s “the dress” and the 1980’s “Scott Baio,” this commercial showcased Mexican grown avocados as one of the main things us Earthlings will be remembered for.

There you go, less-than sports fans! Thank you all for reliving these glorious moments with us.
