Recent reporting from Giant Eagle’s Chief Executive Officer Bill Artman revealed that the grocer is in negotiations for its first store in southwestern Pennsylvania. This is the latest in its expansion strategy as it looks to continue growing in its home state.

Bill Artman, Chief Executive Officer, Giant Eagle“The fact that there’s competition coming into the market, I can only focus on what's within my control. I can't focus on what other people are doing,” shared Artman in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, clarifying how Giant Eagle’s strategy is not based on what other retailers are doing in the market.

According to the news source, a deal was announced this August stating that Giant Eagle would sell its GetGo gas station and convenience store business. If the deal goes as planned, Giant Eagle will have $1.6 billion in proceeds to put toward its Pennsylvania expansion strategy.

Giant Eagle is in negotiations for its first store in southwestern PennsylvaniaArtman stated that the priority for that money is to “get more aggressive on focusing on price, which we know is important to our customers.”

We also learned that Giant Eagle is planning to invest in its other existing stores across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, and Maryland. The strategic plan continues with Giant Eagle investing further in its workforce.
