Make way for a super winner, as Norseland’s partner brand Old Amsterdam® takes home some gold from the World Cheese Awards. The brand’s Old Amsterdam Goat Cheese secured the coveted Super Gold award in addition to nabbing a spot as a Top 16 finalist. Old Amsterdam Reserve, an extra-matured Gouda, also took home a Gold medal.
As noted in the release, Old Amsterdam Goat is a mature goat cheese with a mild flavor and a hint of sweetness. It has a light creamy texture with fine ripening crystals. Old Amsterdam Reserve is an extra mature Gouda with deep, rich flavors. It has hints of bourbon, caramel, and pecan and a firm, crumbly texture full of crunchy crystals.
Held at the Trondheim Spektrum in Trondheim, Norway, on October 27, the 35th World Cheese Awards saw 4,502 entries. All entries were judged in a single day, as 264 experts from 38 different nations studied their appearance, texture, aroma, and flavor. These entries came from 43 countries and garnered participation from 954 companies across the world. Host country Norway put forward its highest-ever number of entries, with 293 Norwegian cheeses competing this year. Across the competition, a vast range of styles and maturations were on display, showcasing a diverse array of milks including buffalo, cow, goat, and sheep.
