Prime Roots Launches Innovative Koji Deli Meats and Koji Charcuterie

Consumers’ charcuterie boards are getting a fresh, plant-based makeover with the help of Prime Roots’ latest release. Recently, the specialty pioneer announced its first-ever line of Koji Charcuterie and fully sliceable bulk Koji Deli Meats, which features umami-rich hams, turkey, and salami that can be hand-sliced in true deli-style.

Prime Roots’ meats are made using koji, the fungi behind miso and soy sauce. As koji naturally grows in long fibers that microscopically mimic animal muscles like that of pork or chicken, the fungi uniquely lends itself to a meaty texture that is challenging for other plant proteins to achieve, according to a press release. This platform allows the development of a deli meat alternative that can be freshly sliced to accompany classic deli mainstays.

The unique lineup includes nostalgic flavors like cracked black pepper turkey and savory, smokey ham. In addition, Koji Pâtés, pepperoni, and foie gras will round out the deli selection.

Prime Roots launched its popular Koji Bacon in 2020, receiving rave reviews as the products sold out immediately. Over the last two years, the supplier has developed and launched over 30 products, including several formats of Koji Meats. Now, the company is turning its attention to the bulk deli category, aiming to disrupt the $300 billion global market with new alternative meat options to expand its reach and challenge the idea of what makes a meat “alternative.”

All of the Koji Meats are naturally umami-rich, GMO-free, and have a simple ingredient list.
