In case it was not abundantly clear, I am, in fact, obsessed with cheese. So much so, that whenever cheese news lands on the proverbial desk of the Deli Market News team, I may just do a little bit of a jig. Rogue Creamery shares my enthusiasm for dairy and also believes that cheese can be used as a force for good. Launching its Cheese is Love™ Cheddar alongside a giving-back campaign, the cheesemaker is ensuring that buyers and shoppers alike know that cheese may just be the root of all happiness.
“We saw cheesemakers creating short-term solutions through programs like GoFundMe and a Farm-to-Box program but these efforts weren’t sustainable for the long-term. The Cheese is Love campaign will provide a simple pay-it-forward concept where people can purchase cheese and know all the proceeds are going to those who need it most,” commented President David Gremmels.
The Cheese is Love Cheddar is an extra-mature sharp cheddar, and for every pound of this product purchased, a pound will be donated to families in need. According to a press release, the combined impacts of a pandemic and the Almeda fire that devastated Oregon last fall have caused thousands to lose both their homes and livelihoods.
Throughout this, the community has expressed a need for food. For months, Rogue Creamery has donated thousands of pounds of cheese to non-profits and food banks. As an artisan cheese company, it needed a way to keep up with demand, and Cheese is Love was born.
“We can definitely see the positive long-term effects this will have on our community and surrounding areas. As a B-Corp, we have a culture of giving back,” said Gremmels. The pandemic and wildfires have made business difficult for many, but it hasn’t stopped Rogue from finding ways to provide for the community."
Cheese is Love Cheddar will be available starting January 20, in honor of National Cheese Lover's Day.
