The gift of giving knows no bounds; and when that gift is cheese, it’s akin to love. Last month, cheesemaker Rogue Creamery launched its Cheese is Love™ Cheddar alongside a giving-back campaign. Since the launch of the campaign, the cheesemaker has donated 1,000 pounds of cheese to ACCESS, a local non-profit. I got in touch with David Gremmels, President of Rogue Creamery, to learn more about this amazing campaign and what the company has in store.
“That 1,000-pound donation was made possible by the support of our Cheese Is Love customers, as well as a generous seed donation made by our friends at Airstream Adventures,” David tells me. “Our new cheese is already being distributed to food banks across Southern Oregon. What a powerful way to start the campaign!”
Rogue Creamery’s Cheese is Love Cheddar is an extra-mature sharp cheddar. For every pound purchased, a pound will also be donated to families in need as part of the donation campaign. Due to the Cheddar’s outstanding performance, I asked David if new varieties will be on the horizon.
“It’s possible we could add a new variety under the Cheese is Love brand. While it may not be in our immediate plans, if the campaign continues to go well, we'd certainly think about creating another variety,” David shares. “The need in our community isn’t going away, and we hope that the campaign will continue long into the future. Our goal is to sell enough Cheese is Love Cheddar so that we can continue to sustain pound-for-pound cheese donations indefinitely.”
While we have the possibility of a new variety to look forward to, David also teased that new recipes and pairings are in the works. And as Rogue Creamery has proved to be an excellent gift-giver, the company is gearing up to ship its Spring 2021 Box starting March 16.
“Our quarterly Cheese Social Club debuted last fall, and our spring box will ship out to club members in just a few weeks,” explains David. “It’s an amazing deal that contains a variety of seasonally-selected cheeses and pairings. Our collection is a fun box to open and share with loved ones.”
