Wherever the delicate and delicious combo of spinach and artichoke is, that’s where you’ll find me. By this logic, I will be standing in front of the cheese case at my local Walmart with a basket full of the latest additions to Roth® Cheese’s Gouda line. Ushering in new flavors voted in by consumers via the cheesemaker’s “pick your favorite flavor” contest, the supplier is introducing the Spinach Artichoke, Hot Honey, and Buffalo Ranch varieties.
“With these new flavors, we’ve built out one of the strongest Gouda lines available in the market today,” said Brittany Fladeboe, Brand Manager. “Spinach Artichoke and Buffalo Ranch are new flavors in the Gouda category, giving consumers even more unique choices for snacking and entertaining.”
Each of the newly introduced products features a distinct flavor profile. Roth Spinach Artichoke Gouda is savory and features flavors of artichokes, spinach, garlic, and other spices, while Roth Hot Honey Gouda features spicy crushed red pepper and the earthy sweetness of honey. Rounding out the lineup is Roth Buffalo Ranch Gouda, which features classic buffalo heat and herby flavors of garlic, chive, and parsley.
The new Roth Gouda flavors are available at Walmart Supercenters and other grocers nationwide, according to a press release, expanding an already strong product line, including Roth Gouda, Aged Gouda, and Smoked Gouda, and flavors available regionally, including Roth 3 Chile Pepper Gouda and Sriracha Gouda.
“Flavor is everything, especially when you’re a consumer looking to impress friends and family with a knockout cheese on a cheeseboard,” said Madeline Kuhn, R&D Specialist and Cheesemaker. “We’re constantly monitoring flavors that stand out, are on-trend, and—in this case—that customers already love.”
As the supplier notes, the extension of this line meets high consumer demand for flavor innovation, which is playing a key role in the growth of the Gouda category.
“Shopper insights are at the core of everything we do,” said Kaitie Hackett, Category Manager. “Retail sales of specialty flavored Goudas have grown by 56 percent since 2019 and drove $8 million of growth in 2021, up 17 percent versus the previous year. New Roth Gouda flavors are trending on restaurant menus as well, especially Hot Honey, which has doubled its presence on United States menus over the last four years and is expected to grow another 33 percent in the next four years.”
