It ain’t easy being cheesy, my friends. The wide world of dairy is packed with both classic and innovative products, flavors, and varieties. So how do discerning cheese consumers (myself included) hone in on the best-of-the-best? The answer: turn to the cheese experts. The U.S. Championship Cheese Contest is one of the best ways to determine what cheeses will make shoppers swoon. This year, Saputo was one of the companies to come out on top, securing multiple awards and retaining its status as a quality cheesemaker.
“We are excited to have the Montchevre brand as part of our extensive portfolio of award-winning specialty cheese. Montchevre cheeses consistently perform well in contests and we're pleased to see that the line’s quality continues to be recognized by contest judges," Kristy Klug, Marketing Manager for Saputo Specialty Cheese, Saputo Cheese USA Inc., shared with Deli Market News.
Held in Green Bay, WI, the contest is a three day event that kicked off on March 5. According to a press release, this year’s contest was the largest yet, with 2,555 entries from 35 states. The event is a golden opportunity for the best in the biz to showcase their products and go head-to-head with their competition.
Luck had nothing to do with Saputo’s multiple awards, as its championship cheeses stood apart from the crowd. With scores out of 100 possible points, the cheesemaker nabbed scores just shy of perfection.
Saputo’s 2019 U.S. Championship scorecard is as follows:
Soft Goat’s Milk Cheese
Best of Class: Montchevre™ Rondin – 99.30
Second Award: Montchevre™ Original Goat Cheese Log – 99.20
Surface (Mold) Riped Goat’s Milk Cheeses
Second Award: Montchevre™ Cabrie – 99.30
Congratulations are definitely in order for Saputo, so pop that champagne, guys!
