Schnuck Markets is diving headfirst into the organic category, with a new grocery banner and format that will debut this summer. EatWell, A Natural Food Store by Schnucks, will capture the Columbia, Missouri, market and will provide local shoppers with a variety of natural, organic, and local fresh grocery items.
“We’re celebrating 50 years of serving Columbia customers, and their loyalty over these last five decades makes this a perfect place for Schnucks to try something new with our EatWell store,” said Schnucks Chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck. “Our mission as a company is to nourish people’s lives, and we’re excited to be able to build on that mission by launching a store where it’s easy to make healthier choices, while still also being able to pick up a few decadent treats for those special occasions that may be worth the extra calories.”
According to a press release, the location for the new EatWell store was formerly a Lucky’s Market before Schnucks purchased it during a bankruptcy auction earlier this year. Currently, the grocer is remodeling the 42,000-square-foot store in preparation for its new health-and-wellness-focused format. As part of the acquisition, EatWell will take on former Lucky's employees in order to staff the 80-team-member store.
And it appears that May is the month of new grocery banner debuts, with Dom’s Market & Kitchen also hitting the newswires and market last week.
Will Schnucks make a name for itself in the organic grocery sector? And how will this new format complement its traditional concept? Stay tuned to Deli Market News as we continue to report.
