The world of foodservice is continually changing, and companies are constantly looking for ways to enrich their own management and leadership teams. Subway Restaurants has taken new steps to invite fresh talent, announcing the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer—industry vet John Chidsey will step into the role effective November 18, 2019.
"I am honored to be joining such an iconic global brand and I am most excited about the future of Subway. I look forward to learning from and working with the many constituents who have built this brand," said Chidsey.
Chidsey has had a long and storied career and in his new role, he is sure to bring great value to the popular sandwich chain. The company’s new CEO has served as a global franchise executive and senior leader for some of the world’s well-known corporations, and his experience includes brands both in and outside of the food and beverage industry.
Before joining Subway, Chidsey served as Chairman and CEO of Burger King Holdings, Inc., and had previously held the role of President and Chief Financial Officer, and other senior management positions with the fast-food chain. He also held key international leadership roles with PepsiCo.
"We're very pleased to have John join our Subway family,” owners of the privately-held Subway brand commented in a press release. “His diverse business background and global food and beverage expertise will help us continue the evolution of the Subway brand. He will help drive our commitment to always deliver exceptional experiences for our guests and continued support for our franchise owners. Interim CEO Trevor Haynes will continue with the brand in the role of President North America."
Prior to his time at Burger King, Chidsey served as Chairman and CEO for two corporate divisions of Cendant Corporation. He headed up the Vehicle Services Division, which included Budget Rent A Car Systems, Avis Rent A Car, PHH, and Wright Express, and the Financial Services Division that included Jackson Hewitt Tax Preparation Services and various membership and insurance companies.
Chidsey earned an undergraduate degree from Davidson College in North Carolina, along with MBA and JD degrees from Emory University in Georgia.
Deli Market News looks forward to hearing about the success and innovation that Chidsey will bring to the new role and will report on updates.
