TreeHouse Foods Reveals Annual Environmental, Social, and Governance Report; Steve Oakland Comments

As it looks to take a holistic approach to environmental stewardship, TreeHouse Foods has published its 2021 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report. The in-depth report details the company’s accomplishments in making its operations more sustainable, diverse, and equitable.

The report highlights the company's 2020 fiscal year performance as well as its progress toward environmental sustainability in terms of energy and water intensity and landfill diversion, according to a press release.

Outlined in the 2021 report are the company's environmental accomplishments throughout 2020, demonstrating the purveyor’s progress in achieving environmental sustainability for its North American manufacturing facilities. From 2016 to 2020, TreeHouse Foods’ energy intensity (kWh/lb) decreased by 3.4 percent, and its water intensity (gal/lb) decreased by 3.8 percent. In addition, the company’s landfill diversion rate was 79 percent in 2020, with 37 percent of its facilities being zero-waste-to-landfill.

The report also details how TreeHouse's holistic approach to environmental stewardship, stakeholder value creation, and enterprise governance is positioning its operations for further growth. To enhance its ESG strategy and goals, the company identified three areas of focus as it works toward Agenda 2025.

From 2016–2020, TreeHouse Foods successful decreased its energy intensity, water intensity, and reported a 79 percent landfill diversion rate with 37 percent of its operations becoming zero-waste-to-landfill

The three areas of focus include:

  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion – TreeHouse Foods is developing new strategies and programs focused on enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization
  • Responsible sourcing – Efforts are underway to create a new responsible sourcing policy and to assess supply chain performance
  • Sustainable packaging – The company will be conducting audits and assessments to identify opportunities to add sustainable options
