It’s that time of year when PEOPLE magazine rolls out its annual list of Companies That Care, highlighting deserving companies across the industry that have shown compassion and empathy in their operations. This year, Wegmans is celebrating, and being celebrated, as it has earned its spot on the list for its fifth consecutive year, ranking #1 for having shown respect, care, and concern for its associates, communities, and the environment.
“There is nothing more important to us than our people feeling cared for, so this award means the world to our family and our company,” said Colleen Wegman, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our philosophy has always been to take care of our people so they can take care of our customers. It has been incredibly inspiring to watch our people show up every day with a smile, ready to serve our customers while most of the world was asked to stay home. Thank you to both our people and our customers for helping create such a caring environment at Wegmans.”
According to a press release, Wegmans’ top priority is ensuring every employee is cared for, respected, empowered, and held to a high standard. Through the company, employees have numerous opportunities to grow their careers through different development programs and internships, in addition to being offered tuition assistance through the Wegmans Scholarship Program. Employees also receive a range of benefits including competitive wages, health coverage, and 401K contributions.
In addition to taking care of its employees, the retailer also works to make a difference in the local communities it serves with efforts such as food bank donations, youth sports sponsorships, and humanitarian relief.
Cheers to Wegmans on this wonderful achievement!
