Flowers Foods’ Dave’s Killer Bread teamed up with Cascade Organic Flour, looking to feed thousands via the Organic Food Donation Partnership on November 16. The donation, which went to building Thanksgiving meals for Seattle-based Food Lifeline, totaled in about 3,000 loaves of organic bread and some 20,000 pounds of organic potatoes.
"The surpluses Cascade Organic Flour and Dave's Killer Bread provide us with are so important,” commented Linda Nageotte, President and CEO of Food Lifeline, according to a release. “50% of the food we distribute to food banks helps to feed children and seniors. High nutrition food items like these make a huge difference to families that are struggling."
In an effort to both mitigate food waste and feed those that go hungry, Food Lifeline rescues millions of pounds of this surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, grocery stores, and restaurants.
"We are incredibly proud to be partnering with Cascade Organic Flour and Dave's Killer Bread. Their products are high-quality, high-nutrition items that our food banks ask for every day," said Sarah Benner-Kenagy, the organization’s Food Procurement Manager.
One of the largest hunger relief organizations in Washington State, Food Lifeline provides 91,000 meals to hungry locals every day.
