Discount grocer Aldi is at it again, testing the boundaries and expanding its footprint. This time, the destination is a new market within the Grand Canyon State as new stores get ready to trim their ribbons.
“We’re thrilled to continue expanding in the Southwest, and we take great pride in reaching this milestone as we open our first Arizona stores,” Tom Cindel, Group Director of Operations and Logistics, explained in a statement acquired by Phoenix Business Journal. “Our aggressive growth plans have always been centered around providing as many people as possible the high-quality, affordable groceries they can count on every day.”
Both locations will open November 5, 2020, one in Chandler the other in Goodyear, Arizona. Stores within this region include Basha’s and Safeway; Aldi noted key differentiation between its format and these counterparts through its noticeably smaller layout.
With a more compact approach, Aldi has been able to focus on staples alongside its private label—which gives the grocer the ability to control its pricing.
Phoenix is known for being a competitive retail market—how will Aldi’s entrance here continue to drive grocery expansion overall as the retail heat kicks up? Deli Market News will be sure to share.
