News of another international cheese award recently came across our desks. Būf Creamery is among the winners who showcased at the World Cheese Awards sponsored by Guild of Fine Food. Amid a field of 4,502 entries, the Mozzarella di Bufala Ciliegine size (cherry size), a water buffalo mozzarella cheese, secured the coveted Bronze award in the distinguished cheese-only competition.
“We are delighted to have won a Bronze award at this year’s World Cheese Awards for our Mozzarella di Bufala Ciliegine,” said Alejandro Gomez Torres, Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “Being the first Colombian fresh cheese company to place a water buffalo mozzarella on the podium at the World Cheese Awards makes us very happy and proud of our land and its people. This win motivates us to innovate more. In 2022, our burrata won a bronze at the World Cheese Awards in Wales, so we are happy to continue this tradition with our other cheeses. This opens many doors for our company with new retailers, distributors, and chefs.”
The Mozzarella di Bufala Ciliegine impressed a panel of leading cheese experts, including critics, chefs, recipe creators, buyers, retailers, journalists, broadcasters, and experts in the field. According to a press release, these experts meticulously evaluated each cheese, considering factors such as the appearance of the rind and paste, the cheese's aroma, body, texture, and most notably, its flavor and mouthfeel.
The award-winning Mozzarella di Bufala Ciliegine is made from 100 percent grass-fed and free-ranging water buffalo milk. It is the smallest size of Būf creamery mozzarellas. The other sizes include Ovoline and Bocconcini. All products are made fresh to order and are never frozen, the release continued. The Mozzarella di Bufala Ciliegine is lactose-free and is Non-GMO Project verified.
A remarkable 4,502 cheeses submitted for the 35th edition of the World Cheese Awards, marking a 6 percent increase from the previous year. These entries represented 43 countries and garnered participation from 954 companies across the world.
Congratulations to this impressive cheesemaker!
