The thrill of receiving a large green and white striped box in the mail cannot be overstated. Tearing open my delivery from HelloFresh earlier this month, I was met with not only the Buddy the Elf™ Spaghetti meal kit, but a wonder-filled experience to amplify the spirit of Christmas that had already begun to set in.
From Elf-inspired aprons to whimsical pouches filled with colorful candies, HelloFresh provided me with everything I needed to have my very own North Pole meal. For those of you who don’t know, Buddy is a Christmas-obsessed elf who believes spaghetti should be eaten with chocolate sauce, candy, and, of course, Maple syrup. HelloFresh ventured to bring the unique eating experience to life for viewers like myself who can practically quote the entire movie.
Now, some of you may be skeptical about such a unique eating experience, but I can assure you that spaghetti and sweets simply belong together! My sweet tooth may make me biased, but I believe candy can be eaten with everything. That’s why I made sure to scoop up a different texture with each fork-full of noodles—an unusual pairing for sure, but delicious nonetheless!
The unique offering from HelloFresh raises a question as to how other industry operators can capitalize on food-centric pop culture moments by creating a one-of-a-kind eating experience. Think stacked pizza slices à la Saturday Night Fever, or Who Hash as made famous by The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. There are endless opportunities for retailers, foodservice operators, and meal kit providers to capture the fanfare of such offerings.
