Kroger is ringing the bells with excitement as it announces a promotion amidst its ranks. Laura Gump will be taking on a new role, stepping up to President of the Houston division, as she succeeds Joe Kelley. Kelley was recently appointed as President of King Scoopers.
“I am thrilled to take on the role of Division President and bring a new perspective to how we will provide an exceptional shopping experience for our customers, an engaged and uplifting culture for our associates, and support to the communities we serve,” said Gump. “My goal is to continue expanding Kroger’s reach and impact and diversify our ever-growing selection of fresh food to fulfill our promise of being Fresh for Everyone.”
Previously holding the Vice President of Merchandising position for the division, Grump wields over 34 years of grocery retail experience. Grump joined Kroger in 2020 and spent most of her grocery industry career with H-E-B, according to a press release. She began her career managing stores before being promoted to District Manager, Regional Vice President, and later Group Vice President for H-E-B. In each position, she was successful in leading and developing teams, creating strong engagement and results.
In addition to her service to the retail industry, Gump plays a key part in her local community. She currently serves as the President of Women’s Edge, a group dedicated to the promotion and mentorship of women in leadership at Kroger. Gump also sits on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston. Grump is a past Board Member of Teach for America as well.
“Laura has tremendous experience in the grocery and retail industries,” said Valerie Jabbar, Senior Vice President of Retail Operations. “Her ability to build high-performing teams will ensure our Houston division continues to deliver the freshest foods and a friendly and welcoming experience for our customers, whether shopping in store or online.”
Congratulations to Laura Gump as she starts her new chapter!
