Loblaw Companies Limited's transport department has been working diligently to reduce its impact on the environment. The company has recently purchased five compressed natural gas engine trucks that will service all of Ontario and Quebec. These newest additions will strengthen Loblaw' Corporate Social esponsibility commitments. The trucks, which are due to arrive in early December, are powered by natural gas and help reduce the company's C02 footprint. Greenhouse gas emissions are lowered because natural gas engines operate using the ideal ratio of air to fuel, allowing the fuel to be burned completely. Because compressed natural gas is such a sustainable source of fuel in North America, it is becoming more popular in the industry. Company materials state, "On top of telling you about the environmental benefits, we have to mention that Loblaw has some serious bragging rights that come along we these trucks- we have the first five production engines off the line! That means that Loblaw will be the first company in North America to run these trucks."
