The Bluegrass State is set to become Publix’s eighth state of operation as the retailer announced it is entering a new market. Louisville, Kentucky, will soon be home to Publix as the retailer broke ground on its first Kentucky store location.
“It’s an exciting day for Publix Super Markets as we break ground in our eighth state,” said Publix Chief Executive Officer Todd Jones. “When our Founder, George Jenkins, opened the first Publix store, he wanted to create a better grocery store—one that kept associates and customers top of mind. More than 90 years later, we’ve kept true to our values, including supporting the communities in which we live and work. We look forward to sharing the Publix difference with Kentuckians.”
Publix’s latest store will be in the new Terra Crossing Shopping Center and will stand at 55,701 square feet. In addition to this expansion, Publix disclosed its second Kentucky location, a 55,701-square-foot store, will be located on Ballardsville Road and Brownsboro Road and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2024.
The excitement doesn’t stop as the retailer also announced that it has signed a lease for its third Kentucky location, which is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2024. The 55,701-square-foot store will be the first for Publix in the city of Lexington.
Following the groundbreaking of the new Louisville store, Publix leaders and associates held a Publix Serves event at Dare to Care, a Feeding America member food bank in Louisville, to unload and sort 40,000 lbs of produce donated by the company, a press release explained.
