Rumors swirled in May this year that Uber was interested in purchasing GrubHub, a deal that ultimately did not go through. But perhaps Uber was simply biding its time to make an offer to Postmates. The most recent reports show that both companies have been in talks, with Uber allegedly hoping to buy Postmates for an estimated $2.6 billion.
According to a report from The New York Times, three people familiar with the matter spoke with the news source on the state of the deal. The two companies, these people noted, could reach a deal soon. Although there was some talk that a deal had ultimately been reached, no news has surfaced confirming this fact.
Those who spoke to NYT did caution that this deal may not go through, as the talks are still very much in process. However, if this acquisition on Uber’s part is made, its foodservice delivery operation, Uber Eats, could see a boost.
Representatives from Uber and Postmates declined to comment on any potential deals.
Deli Market News will continue to report on the latest from the foodservice sector.
