Saputo USA has several brands that are maximizing opportunities in the cheese category this season, including its popular Wensleydale and Vendersterre cheeses. The cheesemaker has unveiled several additions to these robust lineups, already gaining traction among consumers.
“Holidays are always a great time for consumers to experiment with and include specialty cheeses in their meal plans. From salad and side toppers to dips and charcuterie and cheese boards, specialty cheeses are ideal to bring a little variety of tastes and textures to everyday favorite foods,” shared Philip Forbes-Pryer, Director of Category Management – Imported Cheese, when asked what opportunities are sparked by this festive season.
The newest additions to Saputo USA’s portfolio have been well-received among shoppers. Details of these exciting new offerings include:
New Wensleydale Cheeses:
- Mango Ginger: Crafted in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, England, this Wensleydale Cheese (PGI) is carefully blended with sweet juicy mango and the warming notes of ginger. Both flavors compliment and perfectly balance the fresh, creamy flavor of the Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese
- Hot Honey Cheddar: Experience an amazing burst of flavor with Wensleydale Creamery Cheddar Cheese combined with honey powder and chili jam. This savory blend of sweetness and heat is infused with a firm-bodied cheese with a creamy, buttery texture
New Vandersterre Cheeses:
- Kaamps Estate Pizza Gouda Wedge: Beautiful young Dutch Gouda farmstead cheese with tasty chunks of black olives, tomatoes, and a bit of oregano. This special wedge is perfectly known as “pizza cheese.” While pizza cheese may be its informal name, this gouda is great for enhancing a grilled cheese sandwich, your favorite cracker, pasta dishes, pizzas, and salads
- Kamps Estate Maple Whiskey Wedge: During preparation, the cheese curd is washed in maple syrup whiskey. Washing the cheese in this whiskey gives it a somewhat woody character with a sweet undertone. The Maple flavor has a subtle taste with a slightly acidic finish
- Landa Jersey XO Wedge: This cheese is naturally ripened on wooden shelves for at least 18 months, and features fine salt and protein crystals in the cheese are a sign of perfect maturation. Additionally, the Jersey Cow has the smallest ecological footprint of all cow breeds, making Landa Jersey X.O. a more sustainable cheese
“Imported cheese is one of the best ways to explore the flavors and unique food traditions of the world,” added Philip. “Imported cheeses often use traditional aging processes, integrate unique regional flavors, and offer consumers’ palates new textures and flavor notes that compliment familiar cheese experiences.”
