Strengthening its retail division, Stater Bros. Markets recently named its new Senior Vice President, Retail Operations! Bertha Luna was promoted to the position effective immediately and will report directly to President Greg McNiff.
In this new role, Luna will serve as a key member of the grocer’s Executive Leadership Team, helping to evaluate and set strategies for the company while leading the retail operations of all company stores. She already has experience to back the role, as she has served as Vice President Retail for the last year. During this time, she helped Stater Bros. maneuver the challenges of the pandemic, reexamine store operations, and provided tools to energize staff at the ground level.
She brings 34 years of retail grocery experience, having begun her career in the sector as a Courtesy Clerk at Lucky Stores. Later, she joined the Stater Bros. team as a Store Manager during the company’s acquisition of Albertsons and Lucky Stores in 1999. Throughout her time at Stater Bros., she has served in various positions including Retail Grocery Supervisor, Director of Diversity, Retail District Manager, and Senior Director, Retail Operations.
Chief Executive Officer Pete Van Helden noted why Luna’s promotion is a win for Stater Bros. as a whole.
“Bertha’s promotion recognizes her outstanding leadership and the significant contributions she has made in strengthening the operations of our stores,” he said. “As she joins our Executive Leadership Team, I look forward to working with her as she shares her valuable perspectives and insights.”
Luna serves on several of the Stater Bros.’ committees including the Refresh Committee, Energy and Sustainability Committee, and e-Commerce Committee. Additionally, she is a Retail Management Services (RMS) Board Member. Luna earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from Western Governors University and is also a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) Food Industry Executive Program.
