Charcuterie continues to dominate social media feeds, restaurant menus, and at-home gatherings, and I don’t see the hype dying down any time soon. To get a better grasp on what our grocery industry should expect in terms of trends and new products landing on shelves, I got in touch with Stephanie Egan, the Director of Marketing for Piller’s Fine Foods, makers of Black Kassel.

Stephanie Egan, Director of Marketing, Piller’s Fine Foods“We have a few new products for consumers looking to diversify their salami experience. Recently, we released two additional flavors for our Black Kassel Salami Whips and launched our Black Kassel Salami Sticks,” begins Stephanie. “Both lines don’t require refrigeration and are perfect for snacking or on the go.”

Available in a 2 oz format, the Salami Whips now feature Genoa Style and Chorizo Style flavors. The Whips are naturally wood-smoked, leaving a tender bite for an alternative to the traditional mouthfeel and texture consumers are used to. An additional bonus for shoppers looking to up their protein intake easily and deliciously is that these sticks provide 15 g of protein per package.

The Salami Sticks, on the other hand, come in 3.5 oz offerings and are inspired by the flavors of Europe. This new snack line is available in three delicious flavors: Spanish Style Chorizo, Bavarian Inspired, and Tuscan Inspired. They’re dry-cured, naturally cold wood smoked, made with no artificial flavors or colors, certified gluten-free, and free from all major food allergens. The new line contains 7 g of protein per stick, totaling 28 g of protein per package.

As these lines hit retail shelves, I can only imagine the possibilities shoppers can explore on charcuterie and meat boards.

“Dried meat snacks is the fastest growing snacking category; IRI reported that the category grew over 22.3 percent in dollars and 11.8 percent in units in 2021,” continues Stephanie. “Consumers are continuing to seek out new flavors and formats for their snacks, and we’re bringing these new products just in time for summer gatherings and outdoor adventures. They’re a high-protein and low-carb snack perfect for on-the-go or as part of a charcuterie board.”

All SKUs are merchandised in retail-ready caddies and can also be sold in corrugated floor display shippers for limited-time offers.

Learn more at Piller’s Black Kassel booth #3060 during Summer Fancy Food Show on June 12–14. There, the team will have these new snack innovations, as well as its wide selection of signature, sliced, dry-cured salamis, for show and tasting.

Stay tuned as we cover the latest in our expanding industry.
