Sysco Corporation recently announced an exclusive new partnership with SAVRpak to deliver its patented food preservation technology to independent and local chain restaurants across the nation. As a result of the alliance, Sysco will make SAVRpak's “freshness packs” available to its customers through its Cutting Edge Solutions platform.
“We are very excited to offer SAVRpak to Sysco’s customers through the Cutting Edge Solutions platform,” said Judy Sansone, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Sysco. “Takeout meals will continue to be an important offering for restaurants, and this new technology will support our customers’ success by ensuring that meals provided through takeout, delivery, or curbside travel well and taste the same as dine-in.”
SAVRpack freshness packs are a frozen, peel-and-stick patch that removes moisture from the air of food containers, keeping it away from the meal and ensuring both hot and cold foods remain fresh in transit, according to a press release. The innovative, patented technology was developed by an aerospace engineer.
The company’s unique solution is paper- and plant-based, uses no chemicals, and is expected to receive its biodegradable certification later this year. SAVRpak has also been named a winner of the 2021 P&G Ventures Innovation Challenge and Best Sustainable Packaging in the 2021 World Food Innovation Awards.
