Whether or not Trader Joe’s is entering the Freehold, New Jersey, market remains the question. After fans of the grocer recently picked up on signs of a possible new store, the newswire became abuzz with will-the-grocer, won't-the-grocer questions regarding the usually tight-lipped retailer's market advancements.
“We are interested in bringing a Trader Joe’s store to Freehold, however, at this time we’re so early in the process that there’s not much information to share, including a timeline,” a spokesperson said to marketing agency NJ Advance Media, reported by nj.com. “I can tell you we would love to bring a store to Freehold and are taking the necessary steps to make it happen."
Even in communities with residents begging for a store in their region, Trader Joe's likes to keep its expansion strategy close to its chest. However, in the city of Freehold there are several indicators that suggest a new store is imminent. According to local news source Asbury Park Press, an unnamed grocer has filed a proposal to secure a former Walgreens location. There was no specific name on the application submitted to the Planning Board—the name was listed as “ABC Grocer’s.” However, local sleuths noticed that a design document displayed signage in the same style and font as traditional Trader Joe’s stores.
Is this truly a new Trader Joe’s store? Will the retailer ever confirm it? Deli Market News will continue to follow all leads.
