The Commons by United Supermarkets has officially opened on the campus of Texas Tech University. Doors opened on August 29th after a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 20,500 square-foot building was named in recognition of a $3 million gift from United Supermarkets, LLC. The modern two-story facility features a Mongolian-style grill, pizza store, miniature grocery shop and bagel shop. The gift from United has been used to create the United Supermarkets Graduate Fellowship Endowment and the United Supermarkets Scholarship Endowment, providing scholarships to deserving students at Texas Tech. Part of the donation will be used for operational support of the new Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing. United CEO Robert Taylor, stated at the ribbon cutting ceremony, “United Supermarkets is really happy to have our name on this building.” Mr. Taylor continued, “We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Texas Tech. We have been a part of the university in the past, we are a part of it now, and we plan to be a part of it in the future.”
