Global flavors are drawing increasing consumer attention as creativity abounds in home kitchens. Yolélé is among the producers bringing such flavors to the market, and the company has recently expanded its portfolio with its new African Spice Rubs/Dip Mixes.

Claire Alsup, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Yolélé“We are thrilled to share the launch of Yolélé African Spice Rubs/Dip Mixes—our first foray outside the realm of fonio!” shares Claire Alsup, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Our products have a dual mission: to support sustainable small-scale farmers and to share the exciting flavors of Africa with a global audience. Consumers in North America are showing increasing curiosity about West African foods. With our new spice blends, we are fulfilling this mission by helping people enjoy the tastes of West Africa at home.”

Yolélé has rolled out three unique spice blends that can be utilized as spice rubs or dip mixes, each available in 2 oz tins.

“The rubs are all created by our founder Chef Pierre Thiam and based on some of the most iconic seasoning blends in West African cuisines,” Claire notes.

These authentic West African flavors include:

  • Yassa - Earthy thyme, sweet onion, scotch bonnet chili, and lemon form the basis of the ubiquitous, beloved Senegalese chicken dish
  • Rof - A bright, spicy, herbaceous blend of scallion, parsley, and chilis that is perfect when bloomed in just a little oil
  • Afro-Funk - Chef Pierre’s own blend that highlights the deep umami flavor of dawadawa, a fermented West African seasoning

Each of the spice mixes has launched just in time for the holiday season and will be available for retail as well as on Amazon and Yolele.com.

As a cross-category brand, Yolélé is bringing tons of advantages to the retailers that carry its offerings, with its fonio chips creating unique opportunities for cross-merchandising and category growth.

“One area where we are really working to drive sales and find new customers is through thoughtful, creative secondary placements,” Claire adds. “Our fonio chips normally sit on the shelf next to other alternative chips, but we’d love to see them merchandised in beautiful baskets along with the specialty cheeses too—fonio chips on your charcuterie board! We need to show folks that these products are versatile and add style and fun in so many scenarios.”

While I can’t share all of the Yolélé secrets with you, Claire also points out the role these products could play in driving incremental holiday sales.

“Yolélé products make incredible holiday gifts, especially our new Spice Rubs, which come in sleek, bold tins and make a perfect holiday gift set as a trio,” she adds.

With an expansion in the works as the provider prepares to break ground on a new agri-processing facility in West Africa, more is sure to come from Yolélé, so stay tuned.
