BelGioioso Fresh Mozzarella Wins “Best in Class” at ACS

With artisan cheesemakers gathered from around the U.S. for the American Cheese Society (ACS) Contest, BelGioioso was anointed with its own esteemed title in the competition, of Best In Class for its Fresh Mozzarella

“This recognition from the ACS is greatly appreciated and our Cheesemakers will use this award as a reminder to keep their teams focused on quality,” said Gaetano Auricchio, Vice President. “We are the leader in the Fresh Mozzarella category and work diligently to deliver a consistently fresh and delicious cheese for our customers.”

The “Cheese Oscars”, as the ACS Contest is so often referred to, garnered a total of 1,943 entries at this year’s event held earlier this month in Des Moines, IA. According to a press release, BelGioioso was handed its blue ribbon following a blind judging of the entrants. The company also received a 2nd place ribbon for its Burrata in the Burrata category, and two other 3rd place placements for its Mascarpone and Fontina. 

In total, BelGioioso was recognized for its artisan cheeses with four awards: 

1st Place, Best of Class, Fresh Mozzarella Category: Fresh Mozzarella 

Made by Cheesemaker Byron Hall, this soft cheese boasts a delicate and milky flavor, perfect for salads, sandwiches, and pizza. 

2nd Place, Burrata Category: Burrata

Cultivated by Cheesemaker Jason Radke, this ball of Fresh Mozzarella is filled with shreds of cream-soaked mozzarella for a delicate texture and flavor best enjoyed fresh on bread.


3rd Place, Mascarpone Category: Mascarpone 

This fresh and soft cheese from Cheesemaker Bill Cordr has a sweet and creamy flavor that enhances both sweet and savory recipes.

3rd Place, Traditional Regional Italian Cheeses Category: Fontina

Cheesemaker Jonathan Stender’s soft cheese has a buttery and sweet flavor for the perfect snack, pizza topping, or sauce ingredient.
