As a non-yogurt lover (what can I say, I’m a picky eater), I don’t usually pay attention to the comings and goings of yogurt products, but this new development has definitely piqued my interest. In an effort to provide options for non-dairy eaters, Chobani, LLC announced the new launch of its first-ever plant-based yogurt, Non-Dairy Chobani™. While not dairy-based, the product is still packed with probiotics, contains only natural ingredients, and has less sugar than other non-dairy brands.
"We have a belief: if we can't make something better, we don't make it at all. And for some time, we've felt that people deserve better non-dairy options," said Hamdi Ulukaya, Founder and CEO. "We've come up with something that's much better than what's out there—a new recipe that's absolutely delicious, but also meets our food philosophy of being nutritious, made with only natural ingredients, and at a price that's accessible to all. Most importantly, this isn't a replacement to dairy, but it's a game-changer for plant-based products."
Chobani will be unveiling nine new Non-Dairy Chobani cultured coconut products, available across the nation at grocery and retail stores, starting in January, according to the press release. Sticking to Chobani’s authentic craft and food philosophy, Non-Dairy Chobani products are made using only natural, non-GMO ingredients, with no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives. Though Non-Dairy Chobani products are naturally lactose free, they are jam-packed with probiotics. As if that wasn’t enough, the products are made with 25 percent less sugar than other competing non-dairy options.
The Non-Dairy Chobani roll-out includes:
The name and packaging is representative of Chobani’s commitment to transparency, as it applies to better aligning food standards of identity. Chobani advocates a clear distinction between milk-based foods, like yogurt, and other non-dairy options, like Non-Dairy Chobani, cultured with organic coconut purees. According to Chobani, consumers feel more empowered by accurate descriptions of their food and the nutrition it offers.
Suggested retail prices for Non-Dairy Chobani include $1.99 per 5.3 oz single-serve cup and $2.49 per 7 oz single-serve drink.
