I have taken my love of Guinness from a first tasting in England back to my home in Sacramento and everywhere in between. Now, I can munch on a cheese that taps into the complex and beautiful flavors offered in my beer of choice with Coombe Castle International’s new release of Guinness Cheddar.
Operations Director Peter Mitchell shared the inside scoop on the launching cheese that complements any cheers when I met up with him at Summer Fancy Food Show.
“It's a great marriage of two great foods—you've got Guinness, and you've got Cheddar Cheese. Blended together, they make a great product,” Peter explains, before diving into what sizes retailers can get their hands on. “We're launching the product in different SKU sizes—we've got larger sizes and small retail sizes as well—6 oz and 2.5 lbs.”
Perfect when sliced up on a burger or paired with crackers, the cheese is making a big splash in more ways than one.
“So for the first time, in about 35 years, Guinness is going to be brewed in the U.S. and at the same time you're gonna have Guinness Cheddar available and that's going to be available at the same time,” Peter shares.
