Watch out conventional yogurts, there’s a new selection breaking into store shelves to shake up consumers’ love. Under one of its renowned brands, General Mills is introducing Oui by Yoplait; the company’s new, thick, and creamy offering crafted from a traditional French recipe.
“We wanted to bring something special to our U.S. consumers–something we have been enjoying during visits with our French colleagues for many years, but hard to replicate in large quantities here in the U.S.,” said David Clark, President of U.S. Yogurt. “Oui by Yoplait introduces an entirely new category of yogurt to the U.S. using a recipe that has been enjoyed for decades in France.”
This artisanal yogurt looks to bring a differentiated product to American consumers. Based on a recipe inspired by Yoplait’s Saveur d’Autrefois (which translates to “taste of yesteryear”), the recipe has only been available in France; until now. According to a press release, these yogurts encourage Americans to slow down and savor a new style of yogurt, complete with the elegance of simple ingredients and real pieces of fruit.
Each yogurt is available in a French-made glass pot, using whole milk, pure cane sugar, and fruit. Using a traditional pot set process, each serving is individually cultured in the same glass pot consumers will eat it from.
The yogurt is made by pouring ingredients into individual glass pots that set after eight hours, creating a unique and delicious texture. The yogurt is designed to be spoon cut slowly, not stirred. This method preserves its satisfyingly thick, subtly sweet and fresh taste.
The new selections are available in eight flavor varieties:
General Mills emphasized that the French method for making artisan yogurt differs greatly from standard U.S. processes which culture ingredients in large batches. Oui by Yoplait’s use of glass pots, rare in the U.S., maintains the yogurt’s integrity and allows it to stabilize without added corn starch or gelatin.
“I grew up in France eating yogurt cultured in a pot and have fond memories of this simple, French-style way of making delicious, fresh-tasting yogurt,” said Brice LeRoy, Product Developer. “I’m honored to be part of the team that breathed new life into this heritage Yoplait recipe, giving Americans something refreshingly new in the yogurt aisle.”
This new line of premium yogurt also answers consumer demand for wholesome and simple ingredients by using non-GMO ingredients, no artificial preservatives, flavors, or colors from artificial sources. Each flavor contains eight or fewer total ingredients, with the plain only using two. Each fruit flavor adds a small amount of fruit to each bite, and is layered at the bottom to avoid consumers stirring the yogurt and disrupting the texture.
Major retailers can add this selection to their shelves beginning in July, with a suggested retail price for $1.49. The Strawberry and Vanilla flavors will be available in four count packages with the suggested retail price of $4.78.
Have your consumers saying “Oui” this summer and contact General Mills for more information.
