Oodles and oodles of cheese awards! If you hadn’t guessed, that’s been my theme song here at work for the past few weeks, and the fun only continues. The latest cheese to walk away from the World Cheese Awards adorned with a ribbon is Jasper Hill Farm’s Harbison, which took home the title of Super Gold.
According to a press release, 3,472 cheeses entered into the judging arena. Out of those, United States cheesemakers returned from Norway with a total of 8 Super Gold, 25 Gold, 24 Silver, and 32 Bronze awards—an impressive number of wins, if I do say so myself. Among these winners were Montchevre’s Kiss My Ash from Saputo Cheese USA, Cypress Grove’s Midnight Moon won a Super Gold, and Muuna’s Classic Plain cottage cheese won Gold.
The United States stood among 41 other countries that submitted cheeses to be appraised by 235 judges who tasted, nosed, and graded the award-winners—a job I would gladly volunteer for.
Congratulations to Jasper Hill on this win and to all the other United States cheesemakers who took home awards!
