Mozzarella is one of my all-time favorite cheeses. Melty, gooey, and pull-apart delicious, it’s the cheese of my dreams. So it was my supreme delight to find out that Lioni Latticini’s Bufala Fresca took home a Gold medal at the 2018 World Cheese Awards. One the largest and most esteemed cheese competitions, over 3,500 cheeses from 6 continents filtered through Bergen Grieghallen on November 2.
“It is an honor to be recognized for our Bufala Fresca mozzarella at such a respected global competition,” said Giovanni Salzarulo, Director of Product Development and the owner’s son. “It was important for us to recreate the true essence of Italy’s original Bufala mozzarella here in the U.S.;a creation that is very close to my family’s heart.”
According to a press release, Lioni has been importing the grass-fed bufala milk from Italy since 2016. The company manufactures the Bufala Fresca on a pre-order basis to ensure each customer receives the freshest possible cheese. The press release also noted that Bufala Fresca has a shelf-life of 21 days from its date of manufacture, and is currently available in two sizes: 4 oz retail and 4 oz and 8 oz for foodservice.
