More than 150 years of community, cultivation, and cheese. That’s what met attendees that made it out to Marin French Cheese’s Annual Summer Picnic Party, held on the company’s welcoming grounds last Sunday, August 21st.
"We couldn’t be happier on how the event went. Over 570 visitors attended the Marin French Cheese summer picnic, including 150 walk-ins," Elyzabeth Dehapiot, Marketing Director at Marin French Cheese and Laura Chenel's, tells me. "It was a great day celebrating our local community and we hope attendees enjoyed spending the afternoon discovering or rediscovering local producers, engaging in art, special activities, listening to great music and of course tasting cheese!
Families and companies gathered to celebrate Petaluma culture, with live bands and a wide array of options any picnic could want: Fig jam from Orchard Valley, an array of wines, organic yogurt from Saint Benoit Creamery, and, of course, Laura Chennel’s and Marin French themselves, serving up their latest and greatest for everyone to sample and purchase.
Blankets were spread as early as 11 a.m., with families remembering last year’s record attendance and the difficulty of getting a good spot in view of the stage.
While this year did not host a retelling of the company’s historic roots in the region, the feeling of history and community resonated. Kids got the opportunity to play with the stars themselves, the goats of Marin French, as well as gain an education on how cheese is made on their way to play on the company’s playground.
