Montchevre's Melanie Considine Discusses 2017 Growth and Non-GMO Chevre Cheese

Montchevre is on the track to grow its exclusive non-GMO program, setting out to add more farms to the list of dairy providers this year.

“This past year we’ve had the privilege of converting 46 of our farms to non-GMO, which is a really exciting step for us,” Melanie Considine, Montchevre’s Marketing Manager, tells me of the 370 farms that sell milk exclusively to the company. “In 2017 we’re hoping to add 25 more farms to our non-GMO network, and hoping to expand our line.”

Melanie discusses the commitment of consumers seeking non-GMO alternatives in chevre cheese and beyond, and Montchevre’s ability to help retailers fill that need for their shoppers.

“Being that we are the only goat cheese brand that’s able to offer non-GMO fresh goat cheese logs, we’ve been able to meet consumer demands and make sure that those who are really committed to sticking to a non-GMO diet can have goat cheese and be happy about it,” Melanie explains.

As we reported recently, Montchevre’s recently-launched 4 oz. Fresh Goat Cheese Log (MSRP $4.99), is NSF Non-GMO True North Certified in all 13 flavors and is the company’s best-selling product to date. The company now touts a 40 percent increase in sales of its non-GMO goat cheese.
