Savencia Cheese is experiencing a renaissance, it seems, both here in the United States and abroad. The company recently entered into a strategic partnership with one of the Pacific Northwest’s most lauded cheesemakers, introduced a new brand with Midwest cheese bona fides, and earned accolades from some of the world’s most prestigious food awards.
I spoke with Senior Brand Manager Sebastien Lehembre, of Savencia Cheese USA, to learn more about the dynamic company and its year.
“This year, we won the World Championship Cheese contest in Madison, Wisconsin, with the Esquirrou Cheese,” Sebastien told me. “The Esquirrou is a Ossau-Iraty aged six months, and among the 3,400 cheeses that competed from 26 countries, we were the lucky winner of that competition.”
Additionally, Sebastien added, the company earned a 2018 sofi™ Award for Best New Product in the hyper competitive Cheese – Cow Milk category for it's new Dorothy's Cheese brand Comeback Cow.
“Dorothy’s Cheeses is a brand new line of soft ripened cheeses that we launched this year in tribute to Dorothy Demeter, the first women in America to earn a degree in dairy science,” said Sebastien.
Finally, Savencia announced a new partnership with Rogue Creamery earlier this year, adding the iconic Rogue River Blue Cheese maker to the Savencia family.
“Our new partnership with Rogue Creamery, based in Oregon—we share a lot of similar values,” Sebastien said. “Our love for the environment and the cheese industry made us come together and put our strengths together.”
