Schuman Cheese Expands with New Wisconsin Production Facility

FAIRFIELD, NJ
Monday, February 27th, 2017

Looking to bring its hard Italian cheeses even further into the U.S. fold, Schuman Cheese has announced the addition of a new 54,000-square-foot production facility in Fall Creek, Wisconsin. The facility was purchased from a previous production partner of the company, Greenwood Packaging.

Neal Schuman, CEO, Schuman Cheese

“While working with Greenwood, we have been continually impressed by the facility and the team, both of which reflect our commitment to the highest quality cheese production,” said Neal Schuman, CEO. “Not only does this purchase support strategic growth in the processing segment of our business, but it underscores our commitment to creating ways to better meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.”

The new facility will be known as Imperia-Fall Creek. According to a press release, this strategic purchase will boost the company’s production and cold storage operations, in addition to growing Schuman Cheese’s portfolio of consumer and foodservice products. Schuman Cheese will maintain the plant’s current employee level, and expects to create additional positions as shifts and production lines increase.

The new terms of the facility purchase closed on February 23, 2017, as part of a selective purchase agreement with Greenwood Packaging. Greenwood Packaging previously served as a co-manufacturing partner for Schuman Cheese, and operates three production lines in the facility. Schuman Cheese will integrate these lines into its own operations and also assume responsibility for Greenwood’s current customer roster.

This facility will make the third for Schuman Cheese, as the company possesses two other state-of-the-art processing plants. Through these production operations, the company is able to deliver to its customers’ exact needs that extend across packaging, shape, size, and form.

Schuman Cheese’s other plants in New Jersey and Illinois grate, shred, shave, slice, and cute a wide variety of cheeses each year. These products are then packaged, distributed, and delivered through a sophisticated warehouse management system to provide world-class service and logistics.
