Sonoma Creamery Launches New Cheese Crisps Bars

SONOMA, CA
Monday, September 10th, 2018

An obscure sense of propriety is the only thing holding me back from dedicating my life to cheese—it’s just one of those foods you can arguably put on anything and it will automatically be ten times better. Following the success of its Crisp line, Sonoma Creamery is transforming its popular item into a single-serve option, ensuring cheese continues to be something consumers can munch on till their heart’s content.

I catch up with John Crean, President and CEO, to find out more about Sonoma Creamery’s latest item that is shaking up the cheese eating experience and has retailers scrabbling to stock it.

John Crean, President and CEO, Sonoma Creamery“We’re very excited about our newest product, Sonoma Cheese Crisp Bars. When we first launched our Crisp three years ago, we had a tremendous response, but many asked about a single-serve and more convenient product option. With the bar, we think we have found a way to deliver a great product to consumers with all the goodness of cheese and without empty calories,” John tells me. “The response to the bars has been fantastic, with retailers seeing good action on their shelves. The bars are new, but we’re thrilled with the progress.”

The bars are available in five flavors: Parmesan, Everything Cheddar, Pepper Jack, Savory Seed, and Bacon-Cheddar

The Cheese Crisp Bars first launched in March and began shipping to the marketplace in May. Each package contains two savory, crunchy bars in a recyclable tray, so consumers can either share with a friend or enjoy both themselves—I’ll take two please! Together the two bars are only 110 calories and contain 8 grams of protein, with no sugar, trans-fat, preservatives, or added salt—a great feat considering most cheese products are high in sodium.

The Bars are also available in five flavors: Parmesan, Everything Cheddar (which is an Everything Bagel concept with onion, garlic, and poppy seeds), Pepper Jack (based on the iconic Sonoma Creamery Pepper Jack cheese), Savory Seed (with pumpkin and sunflower seeds), and Bacon-Cheddar (with real bacon without artificial nitrates/nitrites).

The Cheese Crisp Bars are a high-protein snack made with real cheese that is tasty, crunchy, and shelf-stable and perfect for on-the-go snacking

“The thing that’s most unique is we’ve actually created a good tasting savory bar. There aren’t many savory bars, and the ones that do exist have lots of sugar. But we wanted a true savory bar, which is what drove us to create this bar format,” John shares with me. “Increasingly consumers are looking for healthy options that are high in protein and low in sugar. Our Cheese Crisp Bars are a high-protein snack made with real cheese that is tasty, crunchy, and shelf-stable and perfect for on-the-go snacking. We think it’s a new way to think about bars and that it might be on trend with consumer tastes.”

Available at $1.99 in modern packaging with logos and colors that are in-sync with the Crisp line, the new single-serve format Cheese Crisp Bars are a product to watch as innovations continue to roll down the deli, dairy, bakery, and specialty foods pipeline.
