WMMB's Rachel Kerr Discusses New and Award-Winning Offerings for 2018

Cheese continues to woo customers, and with the states increasing focus on the fastest-growing portions of the category, Wisconsin Cheese is sure to drive sales in 2018. With crowd-pleasing new offerings, fan-favorites, and perennial award winners, the states supplies of cheese are being buoyed by social media presence and on-trend flavors.

I spoke with Rachel Kerr of the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board (WMMB) to learn more.

“Well, Wisconsin’s love of specialty and artisan cheeses sure isn’t slowing down,” Rachel explains. “In fact we’ve seen that the specialty cheese category is growing even faster than the cheese category over all. Instagram photography of food has grown and grown and grown; there’s thousands of photos of beautiful cheeseboards on Instagram, [featuring] beautiful cheeses like Red Rock from Roelli Cheese Haus to fan favorites and award winners like Uplands’ Pleasant Ridge Reserve and goudas from Marieke.”

Additionally, Rachel tells me bold new flavors and spicy additions are piquing cheese buyers’ attention this year, and Wisconsin Cheese has a variety of spicy and daring cheeses to meet burgeoning demand.

And, with a storied history of award-winning cheeses—from Upland Cheese Company’s Pleasant Ridge Reserve to Roth Cheese’s Grand Cru Suchoix, Rachel tells me the WMMB is confident in Wisconsin Cheeses’ odds at the fast-approaching 2018 American Cheese Sociey Conference & Competition in Pittsburgh this July.
