Recent news from Ahold Delhaize hit the newswire last week. The supermarket announced that its Stop & Shop banner will be closing 32 underperforming stores to better position the company for growth.
“Stop & Shop is proud of the deep roots and community ties we have developed as a neighborhood grocer of more than 100 years, and we remain committed to nourishing our associates, customers, and communities,” said Gordon Reid, President, Stop & Shop. “As we announced in May, Stop & Shop has evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy base for the future growth of our brand.”
Stop & Shop continues to have a strong presence across its five-state footprint, according to a press release. More than 350 stores remain within the banner’s operational footprint.
The 32 impacted store locations are in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
