Royal and winter and fair are all spectacular words, but when you put them together, it’s basically magic waiting to happen. This was the experience for Lenberg Farms and Celebrity Goat Cheese, brands crafted by Atalanta’s suppliers Mariposa Dairy and Quality Cheese. The companies took home multiple awards at the Royal Winter Fair, a combined indoor agricultural fair and international equestrian competition. In its 97th year and known simply as “The Royal,” the fair is Canada’s most prominent agricultural event.
From Mariposa Dairy, the Tania Toscana Sheep Milk Cheese won first place in the “Interior Ripened (except cheddars)” division. The Tuscan-style cheese, according to a press release, is made from 100% sheep milk and has a mild, sweet, yet nutty flavor. The Lindsay Bandaged Goat Cheddar won second place in the category of “Cheddar-goat, sheep, buffalo.” The earthy, nutty, and slightly crumbly cheese is also cloth-wrapped and carefully aged on pine boards.
In the “Fresh Unripened Cheese” category, Celebrity Original Goat Cheese received first place. Celebrity Garlic & Herb Goat Cheese scored third place in the “Flavored Cheese” group. Celebrity Goat crafts fresh goat cheese from a close network of small family farms.
Mariposa Dairy makes cheese with a traditional French technique, four generations of family expertise, and impeccable care. The cheesemaker has a deep commitment to healthy animals and building and nurturing a sustainable community.
From Quality Cheese, its Ashlyn, a soft-ripened chèvre, won second place among the “Soft Bloomy Rind” cheeses. Enveloped in a white, delicate bloomy rind, a layer of vegetable ash cuts the ivory-colored interior. It has a tangy, earthy, and balanced flavor.
Congratulations to Atalanta on these wins!
