The direct-to-consumer meat and seafood brand, ButcherBox, has achieved a remarkable milestone by delivering 1 billion meals to U.S. households. This accomplishment underscores the company's significant impact and reliability in the meat and seafood sector, further emphasized by its upcoming expansion plans.
"As we look to continue our work of transforming the meat industry, we recognize the importance of third-party certifications in holding us accountable and building consumer confidence in ButcherBox being a trusted protein brand," said Mike Salguero, Founder and Chief Executive Officer. "For nearly a decade, we've been doggedly focused on ensuring we have the most rigorous sourcing standards and practices so when our customers' boxes arrive on their doorstep, they can get ready to enjoy what's inside. Being recognized by B Lab for all the work that goes into getting that box on their doorstep is really an honor."
The company’s recertification reflects a 22 percent increase in its B Corp certification score, reaching 98.7, thanks to significant improvements in its environmental impact. The company, initially certified in November 2020, has consistently demonstrated its commitment to high standards across five key impact areas: governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment.
The company plans to expand into new retail channels, form additional brand partnerships, and introduce new products aligned with its mission of enhancing the meat industry and supporting retailers with superior meal solutions.
According to a press release, this achievement highlights ButcherBox's dedication to sourcing only from suppliers with third-party animal welfare certifications, including Certified Humane, the Global Animal Partnership (G.A.P), the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), and the Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM).
"Food, and the experience of enjoying a meal with people you care about, is such a sacred moment," noted Salguero. "For our protein to be at the center of one billion meals over the last several years is an accomplishment I am humbled by. To have hundreds of thousands of consumers relying on us to bring those meals to life day after day is an opportunity we don't take for granted."
As ButcherBox continues to scale, the brand remains committed to delivering high-quality, humanely raised, and sustainably sourced protein.
