There’s nothing like a portfolio of award-winning cheeses in this business. An industry-leading cheesemaker and a DMN favorite in the category, Caputo Cheese recently took home three top awards at the bi-annual World Championship Cheese Contest. Reminiscent of the 2018 World Championship Cheese Contest, Caputo Cheese won Best of Class for handcrafted Burrata and hand-tied Mini Nodini knots, and second place for hand-dipped Ricotta Red.
“We are honored to be recognized amongst our peers in three distinct categories. Each award is for a product that we make by hand, a testament to the amazing and talented staff we have in the production room,” said Natale Caputo, President. “There’s a lot of passion and dedication that goes into our fresh cheeses, and we’re humbled to receive such prestigious recognition in the industry.”
According to a press release, Caputo’s Best of Class handcrafted Burrata is a 12 oz mozzarella shell with a traditional knot surrounding creamy Stracciatella, an exquisite combination of fine shreds of fresh mozzarella and cream which the cheesemakers at Caputo craft in-house.
In the fresh mozzarella category, Best of Class went to Caputo’s Mini Nodini. The hand- knotted bundles of soft, fresh cheese are individually created with skimmed cow’s milk for a delicate texture, with a rich and creamy flavor.
Caputo’s hand-dipped Ricotta Red earned second place in the highly competitive ricotta category, impressing an acclaimed panel of judges with its clean and creamy flavor and light consistency. Handcrafted from whey, Caputo ricotta is ladled by hand and packaged in baskets while still warm to maintain the delicate consistency.
Held bi-annually in Wisconsin, the World Championship Cheese Contest had a record-breaking 3,667 entries from all around the world. An awards banquet will be held next month.
