Utz Quality Foods is a privately-held snack company based in Pennsylvania. So, when we heard that it recently acquired one of Conagra Brands’, well, brands, our ears perked up; Utz has recently taken over the Chicago-based snack company Snyder of Berlin.
The Pittsburgh Business Times reported that Conagra had acquired Sndyer’s in October 2018, when it bought Pinnacle Foods. Both Utz and Snyder compete for shelf space in Western Pennsylvania supermarkets, convenience stores, and pharmacies. Details of the acquisition weren’t disclosed, nor did Utz Quality foods reveal what is to happen to its competitor’s plant, which employs about 320 workers, according to Trib Live.
Conagra had announced the sale of the company on September 11, but the deal was finalized on October 21. The latest sale was part of a broader reorganization on Conagra’s part; Conagra’s Manager of Communication and External Relations Kristine Mulsord disclosed that Conagra divested six other snack brands that involved the delivery of products to the stores, which is not a primary business for Conagra.
