duBreton has long been fighting for animal welfare. Its most recent effort comes in the form of a petition launch, in which the business asks for support from consumers concerned about animal welfare and organic practices.
"Today, we are asking all our partners and all consumers concerned about animal welfare and organic practices to sign this petition to show their support for our request to be excluded from the Plan Conjoint,” said President Vincent Breton. "The Plan Conjoint is supposed to improve marketing conditions by enabling producers to collectively negotiate the conditions under which their product is marketed, but for specialty pork producers, it's quite the opposite. Not only do they not benefit from collective negotiation, but their remuneration is lowered to serve the interests of the majority, i.e. mass-market pork producers."
For many years, duBreton has been fighting for the Convention des Producteurs de Porcs du Québec to be adapted to the particularities inherent in the production of specialty hogs, i.e. organic and Humane Certified, a press release explained.
According to that release, the Convention des Éleveurs de porc du Québec has never been amended to reflect the reality and interests of specialty pork producers and does not allow independent producers like duBreton to develop this type of pork.
The company noted that the Syndicat des Éleveurs de porc du Québec collects dues to promote Quebec pork from organic and Certified Humane producers, without investing that money back into promoting their products.
