When it comes to making a company feel like home—albeit an innovative home that cranks out delicious products—it takes a certain kind of leader. For Blue Moose of Boulder, it found one in Conrad Skelton, its former Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. After a storied career in retail and distribution, Conrad landed at Blue Moose, where he now heads the entire company. I had the chance to speak with Conrad about his new role as CEO, as well as what steps led him down the Blue Moose path.
“I’ve been in food my entire professional life,” he tells me, detailing his time spent with Lucky’s Market as Senior Director of Culinary and Culinary Director at KeHe Distributors. “I’ve been very fortunate to work with as many cutting-edge organizations as I have, as well as having had the opportunity to be a leader in retail and distribution.”
This leadership experience, Conrad shares, helped him see many different angles of the food business, including the chance to interact with vendors, buyers, and marketers. You could say that this experience molded him into the ideal leader for a startup company like Blue Moose.
“I believe this experience gave me the ability to understand what the market wants and how to deliver it to them,” he says. “At Blue Moose, we listen to retailers and position ourselves as the top choice among competition. We have great shelf-life, great innovation, and a safe and clean product that fits people’s dietary goals. In short, we have worked many years to build trust within the industry."
As you can imagine, Conrad leads by example, but his team—and the culture they foster—inspires everyone to win.
“Culture is incredibly important to me. I wanted a company that takes pride in what it does and one that loves to win,” he concludes. “Everyone here at the Moose has fully bought into the mission and is excited to be part of this journey.”
