The Fresh Market is eyeing its geographical hold, and it’s making a move. The retailer is eyeing the East Liberty area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to further expand its presence on the East Coast.
A report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette shows the grocer is in the process of finalizing a lease to take over a 32,500-square-foot store at 5880 Centre. The location was previously owned by Whole Foods Market before the company exited the space a year ago when it relocated its store to Liberty East after a run of nearly 21 years.
Greensboro, North Carolina-based Fresh Market currently has only one store in the region, located at 1551 Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon. The grocer’s overall footprint comprises 159 locations in 22 states, including four on the eastern side of Pennsylvania.
Back in July, the grocer pulled back the curtain on other elements of operational development when it announced the appointment of two new executives.
Deli Market News will keep an eye on the retail landscape for more updates.
