As someone who can’t fully enjoy lactose (curse you, genetics), I always keep my eyes peeled for products that satisfy both tastes and needs. I have tried alternatives such as soy, almond, oat, you name it, but I have a new contender entering my periphery: pea milk. And what better way to learn about this up-and-coming trend than with Sproud’s newest Global Chief Executive Officer, Sara Berger?

“We are currently available in 18 markets around the world. At the moment, Sproud is very focused on building awareness, increasing distribution, and reaching new consumers in the United States,” Sara tells me after she recently made a trip to Los Angeles, California. “The consumer responses following Sproud’s 2020 U.S. launch were extremely encouraging, and we are looking forward to continuing to gain market share as we head into 2022.”

Pea milk is relatively new to the scene, which will immediately pique shoppers’ interest when they spy the striped carton on refrigerated shelves. The plant-based product boasts many health benefits as it is made from yellow split peas. The peas are a regenerative crop, meaning they put nitrogen back into the soil and restore the organic matter, improving soil’s health and productivity as a result.

Health is also a key factor in the product, and Sproud packs five times the amount of protein of almond milk and three times the protein of oat milk. The lineup is low in carbs and contains 50 percent less sugar than dairy milk and 75 percent fewer carbs than oat milk.
