Hometown Food Company is adding to its vast wholly-owned portfolio of leading brands, which currently includes the likes of Pillsbury®, Hungry Jack®, White Lily®, Jim Dandy®, and Martha White® after it acquired this portfolio from The J.M. Smucker Company in 2018. This week, the company announced another hard-hitting acquisition, scooping up two brands—Arrowhead Mills and SunSpire—from The Hain Celestial Group for $15 million.
"We are delighted to announce the acquisition of the Arrowhead Mills and SunSpire brands into Hometown Foods," said Henk Hartong, Chairman and CEO of Brynwood Partners, the company that formed Hometown Food Company. "Arrowhead Mills and SunSpire were pioneers in the organic, non-GMO ingredients space, and we are excited to add these tremendous brands to our portfolio. This acquisition strengthens our industry position by adding improved capabilities in the better-for-you space that we plan to extend into our other categories."
In addition to the two brands, the acquisition also includes a manufacturing facility in Hereford, Texas. Hometown Food will also be taking on all of the facility’s employees.
Arrowhead Mills primarily competes in the baking and breakfast categories, carving out its own niche in the national retail space thanks to its simple mission to provide organic, high-quality products to customers. According to a press release, the brand was founded in 1960 in the Texas Panhandle by Frank Ford, a pioneer in organic farming.
SunSpire is a specialty foods producer of wholesome chocolate products like baking chocolate, baking chips, and chocolate bars. All of the brand’s products are made with some of the world’s richest cocoa beans and tout labels like Fair Trade and organic with no refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, trans-fats, preservatives, and artificial flavors. Like Arrowhead Mills, SunSpire focuses on providing an assortment of innovative products with simple ingredients.
