An exclusive debut is being revealed as a first to hit the quick-service restaurant market in the United States as Jack in the Box dives headfirst into the plant-based trend with two new sandwich items. I can’t wait to see the commercial that this partnership yields!
The chain has partnered with Raised & Rooted, Tyson Foods' brand of alternative protein products launched in 2019, for Jack's Unchicken and Jack's Spicy Unchicken sandwiches, which are rolling out in select locations throughout Monterey and Salinas, California, as well as Reno, Nevada.
"Jack in the Box is delivering industry-leading innovation with the first plant-based chicken sandwich at retail in the U.S.," said Jennifer Kennedy, Chief Product Officer for Jack in the Box. "We are excited to meet the growing demand for meatless alternatives with our new Unchicken sandwiches providing indulgent taste, crispy crunch, and savory flavor in a new plant-based option."
Chicken sandwiches consistently top the list of most ordered delivery items, according to a press release, and during the pandemic, "chicken" has been the most tweeted about food per Food & Wine.
Combining chicken flavor popularity with animal-free demands, Jack in the Box touted these first-to-market additions as both timely and enticing, available in two varieties—regular and spicy—and as either an à la carte or combo option.
"We believe this is the best tasting plant-based product in the market today," said David Ervin, Vice President of Marketing for the Raised & Rooted brand. "We are excited to be partnering with Jack in the Box to bring the delicious taste people have come to love from our plant-based Nuggets and Tenders, to even more people with the Unchicken sandwiches."
The new products are available now through December 12, or while supplies last. Will the pilot expand into a permanent partnership? Deli Market News will report.
